Glancing up at Mount Sentinel from campus, you will often see students running up to the M for a quick break. You'll also see students getting together on UM's playing fields, golf course, and the tennis, racquetball and handball courts. Other popular sports include mountain biking, climbing, hiking and horseback riding. Campus Recreation sponsors a variety of low-cost recreational trips, and rents skis, kayaks and rafting equipment. In addition, students enjoy swimming year-round in the pool, working out at one of the school's three gymnasiums, or the new recreation facility. |

Montana is one of the nation's premier vacation spots. And Missoula is located in the middle of some of the most spectacular scenery found anywhere in the country. Glacier National Park is three hours to the north, and Yellowstone National Park is five hours to the south. Missoula has a challenging ski area on the outskirts of town, Montana Snowbowl. Two major ski resorts, Big Mountain and Big Sky, are three and four hours away, respectively. Winters tend to be relatively mild, with temperatures averaging in the 30s. Summers average 82 degrees, while fall and spring days are typically in the 60s and 70s. |
