Environmental Law II provides
an in-depth look into environmental risk assessment
and management, which is becoming a crucial and growing
area of environmental law. Some of the issues
covered in the course, including CERCLA, have special
relevance to the region. The course begins with
a look at the underlying philosophical and policy choices
of the current methodology used to determine risk. Students
will then continue with an examination of several environmental
statutes, including: TSCA, FIFRA, RCRA and CERCLA. Following
completion of the course, students should be familiar
with the unique issues associated with risk assessment/management
and toxics/waste disposal, as well as the policy and
philosophical underpinnings of this area of law.
The course will be taught using a seminar format. A
student’s final grade will be based on in-class
participation and a research paper. Students
may complete the advanced writing requirement through
this course. |
