In Civil Procedure, you learned the Montana Rules of Civil Procedure, as is true with most state rules of procedure, are based on the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Because you know the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the Federal Courts course does not focus on teaching the rules. It focuses on federal jurisdiction; the standards used to determine diversity/amount in controversy, and federal question jurisdiction. Also covered are the standards a federal court may use in refusing to hear a dispute, even when it has jurisdiction. Finally, in the context of determining federal question jurisdiction based on the U.S. Constitution, a short course of "Constitutional litigation" is presented.
