Professor Beth Brennan

This is an active and participatory professional skills course in which students learn a broad range of lawyer skills starting with client interviewing. The course includes pretrial skills such as drafting and filing of lawsuits, discovery techniques, and motion practice but also includes broader skills of client counseling, negotiation, alternative dispute resolution, and drafting of opinion letters. Students learn general and persuasive communication skills and present oral arguments in mock court settings. The Law Firm Program serves as a teaching laboratory for this and other first-year courses so that students can collaborate in learning many of these skills.
