The study of property law is essential for an understanding of our legal system. The first semester focuses on basic theoretical questions underlying our property system. It explores the definition of property and the acquisition of property rights. It discusses emerging issues in property law, such as whether frozen embryos are property or have inherent rights protected by the government. In addition, the course looks at the types of real property interests, including estates, future interests, easements, and uses. The course also examines the concepts underlying government regulation of property and land use, touching upon eminent domain, zoning, and due process property protections. The second semester focuses upon the more practical aspects of property law, including deeds, title insurance, the recording system, real estate transactions, covenants, landlord\tenant law, and general leasehold considerations. |
