Biography
Judge
Erickson is a Magistrate Judge for the United States
District Court for the District of Montana. He was appointed
to the Court on January 16, 1992.
He was born in Helena, Montana. Following
law school he clerked for the Montana Supreme Court.
He entered private practice in 1968. He later served
five years as a deputy county attorney in Lewis and Clark
County until moving to Whitefish where he practiced law
from 1975 to1985. In 1985 Judge Erickson was appointed
to the state bench by Governor Ted Schwinden. He served
as District Judge in the Eleventh Judicial District for
the State of Montana until his appointment to the federal
bench.
Judge Erickson is a member of the Montana
Bar Association and has served on the School of Law's
Board of Visitors, the Criminal Procedure Commission,
and The University of Montana Alumni Board, and has been
involved with numerous charitable organizations.
A native of Montana, Judge Erickson received
his bachelor's degree from The University of Montana,
Missoula, in 1964, and his law degree from The University
of Montana School of Law in 1967. He and his wife, Carole,
have two children and two grandchildren.
