Prerequisites: 

  • Professional Responsibility (effective for all classes entering Fall 2011 and thereafter)
  • Bankruptcy Law Course 621, or equivalent; a preference will be given to a student wishing to take 4 or more clinical credits; a background in business/ accounting may be helpful.  Students applying should attach their resume to their clinic preference sheet.

Areas of Law:  Bankruptcy Law

Lawyering Skills:  Legal research and writing; Oral and written advocacy by observing the lawyers who or lawyers’ work products that come before the judge

Sample Projects: Draft memoranda and court documents

The United States Bankruptcy Court, Missoula Division, is located in downtown Missoula in the Russell E. Smith Courthouse, 201 East Broadway, Missoula, Montana.   The intern will work on active court cases and receive instruction and guidance from the Judge and court staff and must have the ability to work independently.   Duties include legal research, oral presentation and discussion of work in progress, and drafting of memoranda and court documents.  Interns also observe a variety of daily motion practice, pretrial conferences, hearings, and trials.
