Deborah Smith practices law in Helena, Montana. She is also an adjunct professor at The University of Montana School of Law, where she teaches immigration law. Ms. Smith’s practice focuses on removal defense and related litigation, asylum, family-based immigration, nonimmigrant admissions, and employment-based immigration. She lectures and writes frequently on immigration matters, and has been recognized as an expert in state and federal court. Ms. Smith is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and serves on AILA's Amicus Committee. She previously chaired the advocacy committee of the Washington State Chapter of AILA. She is a recipient of AILA's 2010 Jack Wasserman Memorial Award for Excellence in Litigation in the Field of Immigration Law, for her work on the Amicus Committee. Ms. Smith earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, and her Bachelor Degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Cincinnati.
