Dean Irma Russell recently announced a fundraising opportunity honoring Margery
Hunter Brown and celebrating her life of students. Please click
on this link to watch a video tribute to Professor Brown, made in 1998. A group of
Brown’s
friends and colleagues will solicit funds in her honor through December 2010.
If the group is successful in raising $100,000, the Indian Law Clinic in the
new law building addition will be named The Margery Hunter Brown Indian Law
Clinic. If less than this amount is raised, the funds will be used to endow
The Margery Hunter Brown Faculty Development Fund supporting the School’s
academic diversity mission.
A member of the law school faculty from 1976 to 1993, Margery Hunter Brown
served as assistant dean from 1980 to 1984, and acting dean in 1979 and 1985-86.
She founded the Indian Law Clinic and served as its first director. Brown worked
in the areas of Indian law, natural resources, and public lands. She was highly
regarded by judges, lawyers and students, and she is fondly remembered by many
in The University of Montana community.
