Dennison, PresidentEmeritus status may be granted to faculty and administrative professional staff upon retirement. The emeritus title is conferred upon the recommendation of the President of The University of Montana. Initial review of a request for emeritus status originates in the appropriate department or office. The department chair/director makes a recommendation to the dean/vice president. The dean in turn makes a recommendation to the Provost, who also makes an independent recommendation to the President. Specific criteria for a positive recommendation for emeritus status will largely be vested in the department, based upon those activities that it values as expressed through the unit standards. However, all candidates for emeritus status must meet at least the following general guidelines:
