Edwin Webster - Political Science
During Wintersession term in January 2013, a group of undergraduate UM Political Science majors traveled to Washington, D.C., for an intensive seminar course at The Washington Center. Edwin Webster was one of these students. Edwin’s trip included visits to think tanks, congressional offices, the Capitol building, national monuments, and a number of museums and opportunities to meet figures such as Brian Lamb, founder and retired CEO of C-SPAN; Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform; Montana Senators Max Baucus and John Tester; Montana Governor Steve Daines; UM alum Jim Messina, campaign manager for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign; as well as members of the foreign service, to name a few. Edwin and his fellow students also learned about the workings of our government first-hand, touring the House of Representatives and visiting the Senate when the Hurricane Sandy Relief Bill passed. Edwin says, "It was a treat to watch the government in action, and be able to see the contrast between the reality of government and the usual context of textbooks." Edwin said he considers attending the second inauguration of President Obama the highlight of his trip to Washington.
