Common hardware issues

Some of the common issues with hardware are listed below:

  • Calculators:
  • Clickers: Clickers with unmarked buttons that are not useable by those without vision.
  • Computers, ipads, tablets, and other handheld devices
  • Copiers: Copiers can either copy something as an image or, frequently, can also optical character read (OCR) to create a text-based document.  The latter makes accessible documents.  Most copiers are automatically installed without the OCR option activated.  However, most copiers under 5 years old do have the OCR capability.  (Look at the documentation or website information to ensure that a particular model can create text-based copies through OCR.)
  • DVD/Blue-Ray Players players capable of handling close captioning
  • Fax machines
  • Projectors
  • Smart pens
  • Touch screens
  • VHS Players
  • User interfaces such as buttons and displays
