EITA 2016 Assessment

EITA 2016 Assessment

A self-study/audit was completed June 6, 2014.  The information gathered was submitted to the Office for Civil Rights and the basis for a required Corrective Action Strategy. A little over 2 years later, we are double-checking our progress.  As discussed in this Educause article (https://library.educause.edu/resources/2015/7/it-accessibility-risk-statements-and-evidence), we need to keep "out of trouble" and moving forward.   With technology changes, that means consistent vigilance.  One of the ways the EITA group plans to do that is through an annual light assessment.

During this assessment period, EITA and ATS (Accessible Technology Services) will also review several University processes, collections of documents, review accessibility of online courses in conjunction with other instructional design work, focus on instructional software, and revisit campus groups to present our status and current focus.   In addition, we will do a brief assessment of 7-8 departments.
assessment will involve:
  • 15-30 minute meeting with department chair or department during departmental meeting
  • review of a representative sample of departmental and educational documents
  • an employee questionnaire
  • a standard UM website review

If there is any way in which we can improve our outreach, information or services, do not hesitate to let me know in email or through one of the forms we have available on the Accessibility website.

Any employee can complete an EITA 2016 employee questionnaire to enter your name for a chance to receive:

  • free emergency captioning
  • free emergency document remediation
  • alt text production work
