Employees working toward the Financial Development Certificate must attend both sessions.

ADFIN104 Principles of Fund Accounting

The University of Montana practices Governmental Fund Accounting, which is much different from for-profit accounting. Learn the basic financial statements, how debits and credits really work, and why the 14th period really matters. Participants will learn the fundamental elements of fund structure and the universal accounting formula. There will be instruction on different types of funds and UM’s fund structure (FOAPAL) to help put it all together. This is a foundational course that benefits any person responsible for campus financials.

BNHR105 Payroll Query and Reporting Systems

This course will involve three sections that will assist the user in obtaining payroll-related transactions and budget information. The first part will introduce the user to the payroll query forms in Banner HR and explain the encumbrance process. The second part will explain the UMDW Payroll reports and their various uses for reviewing the department’s budget and payroll transactions. It is encouraged that the user has already taken the UMDW Finance and Payroll Database course prior to taking this course. The last section will explain the InfoGriz reports that are useful to those individuals involved with their department’s payrolls.

BUS101 UMDW Finance Online Training

The University of Montana Data Warehouse (UMDW) is the reporting tool used by UM and the affiliated campuses to provide departments and administrators with detailed and summarized Finance reports such as Operating Ledgers, General Ledgers, multi-year or multi period reports, and transaction reports. These video trainings are designed to give the new user general training on navigating and generating reports within UMDW.

UMDW Finance Online Training

The videos are located on the UMDW Training webpage on the left side navigation. Everyone needs to use their UM\domain to log in. You must complete each of the three sessions to receive credit: UMDW Basic Navigation, Operating Statements and General Ledger. There is also a UMDW certificate of completion that will need to be printed out and submitted with the application for the Financial Development Certificate.

BUS120 Fiscal Year End

Business Services is offering two full Fiscal Year End (FYE) training sessions for instruction on year end processes, procedures, and critical deadlines from the FYE campus cutoff schedule.  Staff from Business Services, Fiscal Affairs and Budget (FAB), Foundation, and Human Resources will be present to answer any questions you may have about Fiscal Year End. Note: Participants in the Financial Development Certificate Program may attend either session.

U-Approve is a secure web application that allows all employees to participate in the creation, routing, and approval of University business forms. This course includes training on how to use current forms within the new U-Approve system (e.g., Cost Transfer Non-payroll, RPT and JV).
