An Education That Prepares You for the Future

PILLAR 1
An unwavering commitment to “whole-person” learning.

The days when a single skill set could take you to retirement are over. The college grads who succeed will be those who enter the job market knowing how to re-invent themselves over and over. We’re committed to helping you learn to think critically, explore creatively, communicate effectively, live ethically. And do it with grit and determination.

PILLAR 2
A collective devotion to the success of every student, today and tomorrow.

International students make up six percent of the UM population and we have more than 70 countries represented.

The path to the future is new. But you won’t be traveling it alone.

There are no strangers at UM. A tight-knit, supportive community, a low student-to-teacher ratio and a great career-placement program mean you’ll never, ever feel like a number here. We’ve got your back — which is exactly what you need to move forward confidently.

PILLAR 3
An education that is uniquely shaped by our special place in the world.

A community that holds you close.

A landscape that lets you breathe.

UM truly is a remarkable place to pursue your dreams. The Rocky Mountains beckon you to come out and explore; the vibrant town of Missoula welcomes you back home. Here, people and place unite in a unique way, turning up the learning — and the love.

PILLAR 4
A highly engaged student body on campus, in our community and beyond.

We have many services and programs specifically for international students. Our international student community is tight-knit and supportive.

Our International Students and Scholars Office on campus is dedicated to supporting international students at UM. It provides visa and immigration advising, orientation programming, special international student programming (such as trips to Yellowstone and Glacier national parks), Optional Practical Training (OPT) advising and referrals to campus and community services.

We also take part in the Missoula International Friendship Program. This program matches international students with Community Friends to provide opportunities for cultural exchange and participation in American family activities.

Our Global Partners Program matches new international students with current UM students to help ease the transition to life at college and in the U.S.

We also have a dedicated international admissions representative who is your contact for admissions questions, questions about the visa application process and more.

Office of Student Success has advisors on staff with experience working with international students at UM. We have multiple student-run groups dedicated to our international students, such as the International Student Association and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association. The ISA and Global Engagement Office co-sponsor  the annual  International Festival to celebrate all our students, their cultures and homelands.

Here, classrooms don’t fit inside classrooms.

Doing is a huge part of learning at UM. Countless hands-on learning opportunities, local volunteer and service programs, and more than 150 student groups make the university an intense breeding ground for new ideas. (Not to mention Rhodes and Fulbright scholars and Pulitzer Prize winners.)

At the University of Montana, students develop the skills they need to thrive in a world full of obstacles and a future full of unknowns. Here, it’s a whole new universe of learning, where students from every walk of life have access to a world-class education; where the institution, the people and the place all embody a bold, gritty, undauntable spirit.
