Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (Study Abroad)

The Gilman Scholarship offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000 and provides awards for US undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two- or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. www.iie.org/en/Programs/Gilman-Scholarship-Program


India InternBoren Awards (Study Abroad)

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide unique funding opportunities for US undergraduate and graduate students to add an important international and language component to their educations. We focus on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study that are critical to US national security, broadly defined and underrepresented in study abroad. For more details: www.borenawards.org/


College of Arts & Sciences Genevieve LaMotte Fund (International Experience)

Offers scholarships to undergraduate students for international experiences. Scholarships award amounts vary and undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences are eligible to apply. Application requirements: CAS Scholarship Information form (on the web), short essay detailing the benefits of international experiences and proposal for international experience (of any duration). Consideration will be given to applications which show the transformative nature of international study. Dailey Scholarships (Study Abroad-where English is not commonly spoken)

The University of Montana offers 2 Dailey Study Abroad Scholarships of $1500 to support a full-year study abroad program in a country where English is not commonly spoken. Davidson Honors College - Study Abroad Scholarships

The Davidson Honors College (DHC) offers scholarships of up to $500 to offset costs of study abroad. Funds are available for study abroad programs and for international internships through the IE3 Global Internship program. Only DHC students are eligible for these awards. Davidson Honors College Boileau Scholarship – Spanish major/minor (Study Abroad)

The Davidson Honors College offers the Violet Boileau Study Abroad Scholarship of up to $500. Funds are available for Spanish majors or minors who intend to participate in a study abroad program in Spain or Latin America. Only DHC students are eligible for these awards which are based primarily upon merit, but also on need. Doug & Dianne Taylor Scholarship for Classical Languages & Lit majors (Study Abroad)

Tanzania Study Abroad Student

This fund provides scholarships to Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures majors with a financial need as determined by UM Financial Aid Office and are at least a sophomore. Funds are awarded each fall for students participating in a study abroad program the following spring or summer. Generally 3 awards are given annually. Edith Hamilton Memorial Scholarship (French major/minor)

This scholarship is an annual award for a Montana resident student majoring in French and has high academic achievement. (See the department chair of Foreign Language and Literatures)


Global Studies Foundation Student Grant

The GSF Student Grant is designed to support foreign language training or other academic studies for students who are already abroad. Applicants must be American citizens and full-time students in good academic standing. Golden Key International Scholarship (Study Abroad)

At least ten $1000 awards will be presented annually to assists members participating in study abroad. Those eligible are undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate members currently enrolled in a study abroad program or who will be enrolled the academic year immediately following grant award. The study abroad cannot have been completed prior to the application deadline date. Please check deadline dates on the website.

Henry & Marguerite Ephron Award in Classical Languages - Greek, Latin or Italian (Study Abroad)

This award rewards superior achievement in Classical Languages study (Greek, Latin or Italian). Scholarship will be applied toward UM tuition or a cash award to help with expenses of participation in a Rome or Greece Study Abroad. (See department chair of Foreign Language and Literature)


Henry & Marguerite Ephron Award in Modern Languages – French, German or Spanish (Study Abroad)

This award rewards superior achievement in Modern Languages study. Scholarship will be applied toward UM tuition or a cash award to help with expenses of participation in UM’s French, German or Spanish Study Abroad. (See department chair of Foreign Language and Literature)


James G. Stemler Scholarships (Study Abroad)

National Alpha Lambda Delta awards 10 scholarships each year to outstanding undergraduate members to support their educational opportunities as part of study abroad programs. Scholarships are valued at $1000 and have been established to help qualified members offset costs of studies abroad. Candidates are considered on basis of merit. Louise Lilly McBride Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide for 1 student each year based on need and academic merit. A committee within the Foreign languages and Literature department will make the selection. (See the department chair of Foreign language and Literatures)


Maloney Memorial Scholarship (Study Abroad - Russian major/minor)

The purpose of this is to provide scholarships for deserving Russian major or minor students to allow them to participate in a Russian study abroad. (See the department chair of Foreign Language and Literatures)


Missoula Noon Rotary Club Scholarship for Montana resident (Study Abroad)

The recipient of this scholarship must be from Montana with preference given Missoula county applicants who are participating in a UM Study Abroad Program - French, Spanish or German Study Abroad programs. (See department chair of Foreign Language and Literature)


Montana German Heritage Scholarship (Montana resident)

This fund is used to offer scholarships for students who are US citizens and Montana residents totally $1000 each year. Selection is made by a committee within the department Foreign Language and Literatures. (See the department chair of Foreign Language and Literatures)


Intern in KenyaPhi Kappa Phi Grant (Study Abroad)

To recognize and encourage academic achievement in all disciplines, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi sponsors a Study Abroad Grant Competition. Qualified undergraduates in all study areas can apply. The program is designed to help students as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic field by studying abroad. The award does not require university nomination, but it is beneficial to have applications reviewed by Laure Pengelly-Drake, DHC Director of External Scholarships & Advising. Powell German Scholarship (Study Abroad - German major/minor)

This scholarship is an annual award for a student studying German, as a major or minor, who are academically strong. It is preferred, but not mandatory, the recipient be participating in Study Abroad. (See the department chair of Foreign Language and Literatures)


Robert Burgess Memorial Scholarship (Humanities majors)

The Burgess Scholarship provides scholarship for promising worth students majoring in the humanities. (See department chair of Foreign Language and Literature)


Rose Southworth Megee Scholarship for Foreign Languages & Lit majors (Study Abroad)

This scholarship provides an annual award to a deserving student in Foreign Languages and Literature Department. The donor is particularly interested in assisting student who wishes to study abroad.


The Flightner Scholarship (Study Abroad - Spanish)

The Flightner Scholarship provides for undergraduate students who are studying Spanish, having financial need and plan to participate in a foreign study program. Preference is given to students who are Montana residents. (See the department chair of Foreign Language and Literatures)
