The Montana Alumni Award recognizes a former UM student for extraordinary service to the University. The criteria for the award place more emphasis on service than on achievement, although the elements of service and achievement will always be evident in the successful careers of alumni who are nominated.
In 1985, the Awards committee of The University of Montana Alumni Association agreed to establish a new award, called the Montana Alumni Award. This award is given during UM Charter Day activities each February.
