Our major program divisions include, Art History & Criticism, Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture and Art Education. 

Classes like Performance Art, Graphic Arts, Illustration, Data Arts, NEO/GEO, Art and Mapping, Navigating the West are found throughout the School.  

The School of Art offers the following undergraduate degrees: B.A., B.A.-Online, B.F.A. and B.A. and Art Education. We also offer minors in Art History & Criticism and Studio Art.

Some of our innovative programs, many which are unique in Montana:

  • On-line studio degree.  One of the first in the country to combine visual and applied art, this 100% online degree offers a range of courses from sculpture and painting to illustration and graphic design.

  • A digital fabrications laboratory with cutting-edge 3-D printers, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, CNC router and large format printers.

  • One of the largest ceramic kilns at a U.S. university, suitable for clay sculptures up to nine-feet tall.

  • Certificate "New West: Art and the Environment".  Five courses--both in the field and classroom--explore contemporary American West through the lens of art. 

  • Partnership with nationally-renown Tippet Rise Art Center near Red Lodge, Montana, where students attend classes, field trips and internships.

  • Large-format relief printing using a steamroller.

  • An "Innovations Studio" which teams students from different disciplines to solve real-world problems.
