Bio

Yaro Shon C. Neils is an Arizona native who received dual bachelor’s degrees in Photography and French from Arizona State University in 2006. Raised in a family with nine siblings, she quickly learned that the loudest voice is the one most often heard. Still, she was an unusually quiet child.

Statement

I was born on an old brass bed in my grandmother's cabin. In my autobiographical work, I am constantly returning to this bed, both literally and metaphorically. Working with the camera in a very intuitive manner, the photograph is able to capture more than my conscious self can foresee. I am interested in exploring the boundaries inside of the constructed trinity that creates this idea of "self;" namely instinct/biology, socialization/upbringing, and a greater spiritual force are the primary areas of exploration in my work.
