How to Apply
We encourage applicants to read all directions thoroughly when filling out the online application. For questions about the online application process, please call the Graduate School at (406) 243- 2572. For questions about letters of recommendation or portfolio requirements, please call the School of Art at (406) 243-4181. Complete the online application which includes submitting a $60 non-refundable application fee electronically using a credit card (Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover) or debit check. The School of Art recommends students to the Graduate School for acceptance. However, acceptance for admission is determined by the Dean of the Graduate School. No applications will be reviewed for acceptance unless all application materials are complete. The application and additional infomration are available HERE.
The School of Art does not require the GRE.
Requirements for Application- MA (Studio Art), MFA (Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture)
Three Professional Letters of Recommendation
All letters must be on professional letterhead, in a sealed envelope signed on the back by the professional, and submitted in the applicant's packet. At least one letter must be from a visual arts post-secondary faculty member who addresses the applicant’s art work and ability to participate in and complete a graduate program. Letters should be mailed directly to:

Official Transcript(s)
Transcripts must be provided from all higher educational institutions attended in a sealed envelope included in the applicant’s packet. Sometimes receiving transcripts may take two to three weeks to receive so PLAN AHEAD. Do not send transcripts under separate cover. The Graduate School can provide a form for you to print in order to request official transcripts from other colleges and universities. It is available at the beginning of the online application.
Resumé
One copy of a visual-arts related resumé.
Artist Statement
One copy of a 300-word, typed, double-spaced artist statement addressing the origin and nature of the applicant’s submitted portfolio.
Writing Sample- Statement of Intent
Inventory list
One copy of a numerical inventory list to include title, dimensions, materials and date corresponding to the digital portfolio.
Portfolio
A disc which includes the resume, statement, and inventory list as a Microsoft Word document or PDF file and a digital portfolio of 20 images using JPEG, 300 dpi, 8” high maximum, collated in a named folder. All portfolios will be viewed on a MAC platform. This should be mailed directly to:
