Claire Melli graduated from the University of Central Florida with a BFA in painting and an art history minor. While in Orlando, Claire divided her time between work and school, and volunteered regularly with local animal shelters. She is now pursuing her MFA with a concentration in painting at the University of Montana, where she plans to spend less time waiting tables and more time working out the kinks in her art.
Painterly abstraction allows me to synthesize intimate psychological experiences with broader social issues. By keeping the content of the work tantalizingly indeterminate, I give the viewer the ability to engage with his or her own psyche and interpret the piece in a way that is individually meaningful.
Working expressively and intuitively with acrylic paint and various drawing implements effectively records my meditative, cathartic process and provides a visible connection to the production of the finished painting.
