May 3-8, 2010: Western Cast Iron Art Conference

The School of Art's Sculpture Division is set to host the Western Cast Iron Art Conference this May. The conference will combine exhibitions, demonstrations, guest lectures and panel discussions. Practicing artists, students, academics, and the general public are welcomed to attend. A national juried exhibition titled "National Iron" will include work from many of the participating artists and will be on display at the Missoula Art Museum. The keynote speakers are Elizabeth Kronfield and Matthew Wicker, whose work will be featured at the Montana Museum of Art and Culture.

The Conference begins on Monday May 3rd with workshops for registered participants. Thursday May 6th features tours, a panel discussion, keynote exhibition and address. On Friday, May 7th there will be student iron pours, panel discussions and the opening of the National Juried Exhibition of Cast Metal Art. Saturday May 8th will involve a morning of producing conference-made artwork on campus, and a night of Performance at the Rock Creek Lodge where iron casting will get started at sundown. The campus iron event on Saturday morning is free to the public with bleacher seating!.
