Get Involved

There are a lot of great ways you can get involved with ASUM.  Elections are held every spring for the 20 senator positions and 3 executive positions (President, Vice-president, Business Manager).  You can run for office or apply for one of the non-elected positions such as political action director and student resolution officer. 

Student At Large

ASUM is also made up of a number of committees and there are specific positions for Students At Large who would like to sit on a committee. 

The committees are:

The position of Student Political Action Director is currently accepting applications (due September 7)! 

Mission of Student Political Action: SPA shall be the proper representation of the students' interest to the community outside the University of Montana Campus including, but not limited to, the Montana Legislature, the United States Congress, the various county commissions and city councils of the State of Montana, and the executives of these legislative bodies. The Director will:

  1. be responsible for issues directly related to students' daily lives;
  2. report to the ASUM Senate on issues;
  3. be an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Student Political Action Committee;
  4. be responsible for representing the ASUM at the Missoula City Council;
  5. oversee the actions of the ASUM lobbyist during the legislative session.

ASUM also serves as the governing body for all of the student groups on campus.  We have a formal recognition process for all groups and help them through our budgeting process to be allocated money.  For a complete listing of all the student groups and their information, please see the Student Group portion of our website.
