Question: What is the URL for Banner 7?


Question: Are there rules about passwords?


  • Passwords must be 8 characters (letters and/or numbers)
  • Do not use special characters
  • Passwords cannot be re-used (it remembers your old ones)
  • If you tried the wrong password 3 times, wait 6 minutes before retrying
  • Passwords expire after 90 days (with a 7 day grace period)
  • You can change your Banner password anytime by clicking the right hand link on the main menu

Question: How do I obtain assistance?


Question: Why am I having trouble installing the JInitiator?

Answer: More than likely you do not have local administrator privileges on your machine. Follow these steps to determine if you are set up with these privileges. If you aren't, then check with your department technical support staff for assistance installing the JInitiator.

Question: What are the required browser settings for Banner 7?

Answer: At this point, we have identified at least two browser settings that have an effect on Banner 7.

#1 - You will need to change your browser settings to NOT allow the "reuse of windows for shortcuts". Otherwise, shortcuts or email links will reuse your Banner session window and you will be kicked out of Banner. Once this change is made, shortcuts or links from email will open in a separate browser window.

To uncheck "Reuse of Windows for shortcuts" option:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options and then click on Advanced tab.
3. Under the Browsing category, uncheck the Reuse Windows For Launching Shortcuts option.
4. Click Apply, then OK.

#2 - Add the Banner 7 site to the "Trusted Site" zone. Several processes such as the Data Extract and Oracle reports will not work if this step is not followed.

To add Banner 7 to your Trusted Sites:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options and then click on the Security tab. 3. Click the Sites button.
4. Type ' ' in the Add this Web site to the zone field.
5. Click Add.
6. Click OK to close the box. Click OK again to close the Tools menu.

Question: Will pop-up blockers affect Banner 7?

Answer: Yes. Since Banner 7 uses pop-up windows, you must allow pop-ups from our Banner 7 website. If your browser displays an information bar notifying you that a pop-up has been blocked, click the Information Bar and select the option to always allow the pop-ups from our website. Once this is done, you should have no further problems accessing Banner 7. You can also set this manually (see below).

To change Pop-up Blocker settings on Internet Explorer:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
3. Type ' ' in the Address of Web site to allow box, and then click Add.

Note: Other browsers will have different steps for allowing pop-ups from specific websites. Follow their help instructions to change settings for pop-ups. Also, some sites, such as Yahoo and Goggle, have toolbars that sit under the main browser's toolbar or main menu. These site toolbars may also include pop-up blockers that will either have to be disabled or settings modified to allow pop-ups from

Question: How do I create a Favorite?

Answer: To create a Favorite for Banner 7 (using Internet Explorer):

1. Open Internet Explorer and navigate to the Banner 7 URL (
2. Once the Banner Logon window appears (this will be the second window that opens), click back on the first window ("Connect to Banner" window) so that it is active. To do this, use the window buttons located on the Task Bar located at the bottom of your screen.
3. Click on the Internet Explorer menu bar, select Favorites.
4. Click Add to Favorites.
5. Keep the name "Connect to Banner" in the Name field.
6. Click OK. 7. Once completed, you can access your Banner 7 by clicking you favorite ("Connect to Banner") at anytime by clicking on the Favorites icon in your web browser.

Question: How do I create a shortcut?

Answer: To create a desktop shortcut for Banner 7 (using Internet Explorer):

1. Right-click on your desktop.
2. Click New.
3. Click Shortcut.
4. Type in the "Type the location of the item" field.
5. Type Connect to Banner in the "Type a name for this shortcut" field.
6. Click Finish.
7. A shortcut will now be added to your Desktop.
