Management Handbook

This web page is provided for USDA Forest Service personnel. It provides access to a new management handbook that is under development. The BBIRD database is unique in providing data on nesting success, cowbird parasitism and nest predation related to habitat for many sites and species. Analyses are being conducted to determine spatial scales and features of the landscape that influence breeding parameters such as Brown-headed Cowbird parasitism and nest predation (a powerpoint slide show below provides an overview of the approach). In addition, detailed summary of breeding parameters relative to habitat and integration of known information from the literature are used to provide specific guidance for individual species (provided in the individual species accounts below). Development of species accounts is an ongoing process and new accounts will be added as they are completed. Data analyses for each account are time intensive and so they are added every few weeks. At the same time, direct estimates of nest success, nest predation, and cowbird parasitism can be obtained for every species in the database by clicking here or on the link at the bottom.
