In addition to the documents written as general BBIRD resources, we are collecting documents and data sheets that BBIRD collaborators have written for their own purposes and which may be useful to others. Have a look at the Contributed Documents page. If you have any documents that you feel might be useful to others, please contact the BBIRD office.
You can also download a copy of the general BBird Field Protocol, the Grassland Protocol, and related material. If you are working on a grassland site, you will need both the main protocol and the grassland supplement. Currently, in addition to the BBIRD protocol we have available for downloading samples of the data sheets required in the field to record information. All data sheets have been formatted to mirror the screen layouts of the 1997 revision of the data entry program. We have sample data sheets for:
- Nest record cards
- This is a sample of the front and back of a 4" X 6" card used to record information from an individual nest.
- Nest success summaries
- A form useful for summarizing the information needed to acertain rates of nest predation and parasitism.
- Nest vegetation measurement
- A data form used to record vegetation in survey plots around nests and at systematic survey points used to describe the vegetation on a study plot.
- Vegetation density measurement
- A data form that accompanies the basic vegetation data sheet for plot description data. This additional information is used in point-centered quarter estimates of densities of live trees, snags, and shrubs.
- Grassland vegetation
- A sample data sheet for recording vegetation measurements at BBIRD grassland sites.
- Point counts
- Data sheet for field recording of data for BBIRD point counts.
- Bird banding
- The front of a data form (back should be used for comments) for recording data from birds banded in the course of work. This form is a slight modification of the standard MAPS data sheet.
- Weather
- Data sheet formatted to record daily weather information from BBIRD sites.
