Are You a Veteran Wanting to Use
Your Education Benefits
to Assist with College Costs?

Below is the process for applying for your education benefits and getting your benefits certified for payment of college costs at the Bitterroot College:

  1. Fill out the Veterans Online Application (VONAPP) to apply for veterans education benefits
    1. If you need assistance with the VONAPP, schedule an appointment with Rob Embree at the Valley Veterans Service Center—call (406) 363-9838 or email
  2. Follow the process to apply for admission to the Bitterroot College
  3. Recieve your education benefits eligibility letter in the mail (takes about 2 weeks from VONAPP submission date)
  4. Recieve your college acceptance letter in the mail (takes about 2 weeks from college application submission date)
  5. Meet with Bitterroot College Academic Advisor Kathleen O'Leary to register for college courses
    1. Contact Kathleen at (406) 375-0100 or to schedule an advising appointment
    2. Bring your education benefits eligibility letter and your college acceptance letter to your advising appointment
    3. At advising appointment, receive printout of college schedule and college bill
  6. Fill out the Online Education Benefit Certification Request Form
    1. If you need assitance with the Online Education Benefit Certification Request Form, schedule an appointment with Rob Embree at the Valley Veterans Service Center—call (406) 363-9838 or email
      1. Bring your eligibility letter, college schedule, and college bill to your appointment at the Valley Veterans Service Center

♦ Important ♦

To ensure that your veterans education benefits disburse in time
for the first week of college classes, start the VONAPP process at least
SIX WEEKS prior to the start of the college semester.

Veterans' Upward Bound (VUB) is a FREE U.S. Department of Education program designed to help eligible U.S. military veterans gain and refresh essential skills so that they can successfully compete for jobs, start college, or simply improve their lives. The Bitterroot College is proud to bring FREE VUB courses to Ravalli County.
