The ethical issues that emerge in rural communities are not always regarded as highly intriguing or worthy of serious attention. Thus the interest, concern, and constructive suggestions offered by all of the peer commentators who responded to our recent publication in AJOB were affirming. We ardently believe that their call for increased attention to the ethics of rural care is warranted. While our studies have primarily been conducted in rural areas, the anecdotal data we have gathered from urban settings suggest that many of the issues that occur in rural settings occur in urban ones as well. Moreover, these data suggest that the solutions to these ethical problems are just as elusive in urban environments. This article summarizes our responses to the peer commentators.
