UM BRIDGES: New FEWS courses at UM

UM BRIDGES Faculty at Retreat

The UM BRIDGES program will be offering several new Food-Energy-Water Systems (FEWS) course options in academic year 2017-2018. These will include:

Fall 2017

  • GEO 595/NRSM 595: Food-Energy-Water Core Course TR 12:30-1:50 (enrollment by consent of instructors): Drs. Yung and Wilcox will guide students in a broad exploration of food-energy-water systems through case studies and interactive discussions.
  • GEO 595/NRSM 595: Food-Energy-Water Seminar M 4:30-5:20: Dr. Brian Chaffin will lead a seminar comprising local and international guest speakers working at the cutting-edge of food-energy-water innovations and study.

Spring 2018

  • GEO 595/NRSM 595: Food-Energy-Water Seminar F 11:00-11:50: Guest speakers will cover a breadth of skills and topics, providing a primer on key aptitudes needed to work and research at the nexus of food-energy-water systems.
  • GEO 595/NRSM 595: Food-Energy-Water Field Lab Alternating Mondays 3:30-4:50 plus a week-long field trip (enrollment by consent of instructor): Students will study applied FEWS topics and practice applied science communications skills during the semester, culminating in a field visit to meet the practitioners, scientists, and policy-makers behind the issues.
