The University of Montana invites applications for the position of Director of Business Services. The Director provides strategic leadership and accountability for the fiscal operations of the University of Montana-Missoula through effective performance management of staff and by establishing financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting systems for the following functional areas: general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, travel, grants, procurement, student loans, treasury, and budget control & monitoring.
As the chief accounting officer, the Director is responsible for providing oversight for proper accounting and safeguarding of the University’s assets and recording the University’s liabilities; recording and reporting all financial activity for University funds in accordance with applicable policies and regulations; controlling the collection and disbursement of University funds in accordance with applicable policies and regulations; properly procuring goods and services for the University community; reviewing the operating budgets for compliance with budget and fund balance requirements; maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the accounting system; assisting a diverse population of students, faculty and campus departments in obtaining fiscal information; providing fiscal information to outside agencies, organizations or individuals as requested or required by law; supervising personnel in Business Services; appropriately implementing personnel and diversity policies within the department; preparing annual operational and financial reports; facilitating and managing billing, fee collection and aid disbursement for student registration; and preparing operating budgets for specified University funds; guiding the University community on business policy; compiling and publishing the University’s annual consolidated financial statement as required by GASB and NACUBO; and advising the Vice President for Administration & Finance.
The Director reports to the Vice President of Administration and Finance and has contact with President’s cabinet members, deans, directors, faculty, staff, students, parents and the general public, as well as with the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education, external auditors, and various local, state and federal agencies. Position is also responsible for providing leadership to the 37 full and part-time Business Services office staff and the affiliated campuses of Helena College, Montana Tech and The University of Montana – Western in the areas of Accounting Services, Purchasing, Property Management, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Student Billing and Loans, Travel, Treasury, and Banner Systems Management.
