PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Identity thieves use identifying information of another person to open new accounts and misuse existing accounts, creating havoc for consumers and businesses. In response to this type of theft, the Federal Trade Commission published the Identity Theft Red Flag Rules.
These rules require financial institutions and creditors to implement a program to detect, prevent, and mitigate the instances of identity theft. Since The University of Montana regularly extends, renews, or continues credit, these rules apply.
Pursuant to the issuance of these rules and to prevent identity theft at The University of Montana this written program has been developed.
