Submit your prose, poetry, and art for the Summer 2011 Issue! The theme for the Summer 2010 Issue is Water. The deadline for submissions is March 15th, 2011.
Camas seeks to create an evocative space that celebrates, explores, and acknowledges the complex relationship of people and land and environment in the American West. Pieces that speak to this complexity of relationships will have a greater likelihood of publication in the Summer 2011 Issue.
Particulars about each genre that Camas publishes are below. Thank you for your time and interest, and we look forward to seeing your work!
Feature articles typically require research, interviews, and appropriate history. Length: 2000-3000 words
Essays can be personal, philosophical, or humorous in nature, and writers are free to include research, experience, observation, etc. Length: 500-2000 words
Vignettes and longer pieces are accepted. Length: 500-3000 words.
Poetry or other written work of intrigue is accepted. Word count varies.
Black and white works are preferred, but high-contrast color pieces are also suitable. Please submit work in as high a resolution as possible (at least 300 dpi; preferably a grayscaled .tif image). Enclose or attach a description of the photo or art as well as any other relevant information.
Camas publishes two issues each year: one issue in December and one issue in June. We are currently accepting submissions for Summer 2011. Our deadline for the Summer 2011 Issue is March 15, 2011. Please review the specifications for this issue above, and contact camas@mso.umt.edu with any additional questions.
All quality works with an environmental theme will be considered for publication. Please review our vision statement for guidance. If you have any questions feel free to contact us.
Please submit your work electronically, either by e-mail or by mailing a compact disk. Please specify the genre of your submission. With poetry, please indicate if your work ought to be presented as single, double, or otherwise spaced. Put your name and contact information on the front page, and your name and page number on every page. Images or artwork should be high resolution scans (min. 300 dpi). Large files (i.e. greater than 3 MB) should be burned to a CD and mailed.
Please include a 2-3 sentence biography with your submission. We have a much quicker turn around time from selection to layout and print if we have these in hand. Please contact us with any questions regarding this or any other requirement.
