We are currently in our reading period for the Winter 2009/10 issue and not able to accept any new submissions at this time. We will be accepting submissions for the Summer 2010 issue in the near future. Feature articles are in-depth creative pieces that cover cultural and environmental issues in the West. Feature articles typically require research, interviews, and appropriate history. Length: 2000-3000 words
Essays are versatile thought pieces on a variety of subjects realted to the nature of the West. They can be personal, philosophical, or humorous in nature, and writers are free to include research, experience, observation, etc. Length: 500-2000 words
Interviews and profiles introduce readers to individuals who are committed to positively influencing the West. These may take the shape of an essay, a question-and-answer interview, or a combination of both. Information about the interviewee gleaned from research, interviews, and/or previous interactions should be included. Authors must provide a quality photograph of the interviewee. Length: 750-2000 words
Fiction pieces submitted to Camas must have a Western theme and/or an ecological or environmental focus. Vignettes and longer pieces are accepted. Length: 500-2500 words.
Poetry or other written work of intrigue is accepted. Word count varies.
Photography and artwork of all types related to our environmental and western focus will be considered. Black and white works are preferred, but high-contrast color pieces are also suitable. Please submit work on an IBM compatible CD, in as high a resolution as possible (at least 300 dpi; preferably a grayscaled .tif image). Enclose a description of the photo or art as well as any other relevant information.
Camas publishes two issues each year: one issue in December and one issue in June. We are currently accepting submissions for the December 2009 issue. The deadline has been extended to NOVEMBER 1, 2009. The deadline for the Spring 2010 issue will be mid-March.
Occasionally we establish themes for our issues, but we also welcome variety. All quality works with an environmental and/or western theme will be considered for publication. If you have any questions feel free to contact us.
Please submit your work electronically, either by e-mail or by mailing a compact disk. Text should be double-spaced and single-sided. Put your name and contact information on the front page, and your name and page number on every page. Images or artwork should be high resolution scans (min. 300 dpi). Large files (i.e. greater than 3 MB) should be burned to a CD and mailed.
We will acknowledge receipt of all submissions ELECTRONICALLY. If you don't get a response within 1 week, we have not received it.
We can offer no monetary compensation for pieces published in Camas. What we do offer is a copy of the Camas issue in which your work appeared, the opportunity to be published alongside some of the West's most prestigious writers, and our undying gratitude.
