Kallie

Kallie Kallie graduated in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an Major in Accounting. She came to the University of Montana as a traditional freshman from Seattle, Washington. While UM was not originally her first choice, she attended a UM Days and quickly fell in love with the campus and decided this is where she wanted to be. She started as a management and international business major but after changing her focus several times, chose to pursue accounting because many people she talked to indicated that accounting gives you a good background to pursue different careers in business.

Kallie quickly became involved in campus life through working at the Bear Claw Bakery and becoming an Advocate for Enrollment Services, a position where students promote the university through a variety of activities. In fact, she received the Advocate of the Year Award in her sophomore year. She also worked on campus in the IT computer lab her sophomore year. She was then chosen for the competitive Student Affairs Immersion Learning (SAIL) internship. The SAIL program was designed to give student interns the opportunity to learn more about the Division of Student Affairs. Interns spend fall semester in four week rotations through four different Student Affairs departments, and then spend the next semester in an in-depth internship in one of those four departments. So during her junior year, Kallie gained invaluable experiences learning about, and working for: Dining Services, Financial Aid, Residence Life, and Foreign Student and Scholar Services.

Kallie emphasized how all these experiences have, in her words, “made me so successful in school.” She said she applied for and got her first two jobs through Student Employment and applied for the SAIL internship through Griz eRecruiting; both services of Career Services. And summer 2010, she was the successful applicant for the Orientation Assistant position with Enrollment Services.

Kallie completed a competitive internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) in Seattle, WA during summer 2011 and is pursuing a Master in Professional Accounting degree at the University of Washington. When she finishes her degree in May 2012, she plans to sit for the CPA exam and start full-time with PWC in the fall. She said she credits the help she received from Career Services with resume and interviewing skills, plus all her experiences, with being successful in achieving her career goals.
