Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (American Chemical Society Certified) may also select specialized options in Environmental Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry, and Pharmacology. Students seeking an endorsement in the major teaching field of Chemistry must complete the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry, in addition to completing Teacher Education Program requirements.
The courses required for the B.S. degree provide a solid education in chemistry for the professional chemist and in preparation for graduate work in most areas of chemistry. Graduates find career opportunities in areas such as research and development, chemical manufacturing, education, and state/federal governments. Graduates may also choose to pursue advanced studies in health sciences professional programs or other graduate studies in a variety of disciplines. See some of the possibilities below.
There are numerous professional associations affiliated with the wide variety of careers available to people who study Chemistry. See the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook for more information.
