¨
Activate an account with Griz eRecruiting at
www.umt.edu/career/recruiting/ermain.htm
and submit your resume, cover letter, and transcripts on-line. Continue to
update this information as you complete coursework or have additional work
experience.
¨
Continue to update your portfolio with current activities, references,
letters of recommendation, and committee memberships (See Freshman and
Sophomores checklists for more information.)
¨
Attend an information session or meet with someone from Internship
Services to discuss opportunities to apply for an internship.
¨
Participate in the Ask-an-Alum Career Mentoring Program. Complete an
informational interview with at least one Alumnus per semester (two
informational interviews total). An informational interview is the best way to
find out answers to the specific questions about particular careers or job
titles.
¨
Read at least one book on internships or research a specific employer by
using the Internet or resources available in the Career Resource Library.
¨
Take a position of leadership within campus clubs or organizations or in
the community through service or volunteer organizations. Contact the Center for
Leadership Development to ask about leadership programs.
¨
Attend the Big Sky Career Fair to inquire about internships or summer
opportunities for the summer. Speak with different organizations and present
your resume. This will help you gain skills in presenting yourself as a
professional. Contact the Office of Career Services or visit their web site at www.umt.edu/career
for additional information.
¨
Obtain a copy of the workshops held each semester available in the Office
of Career Services or on their web site www.umt.edu/career.
These workshops will help you with resume, cover letter writing, interviewing
skills and job search strategies.
¨
Practice
your interviewing skills with a videotaped Mock Interview. This will help you
see how you appear to company recruiters and give you the opportunity to make
changes before it is too late.
¨
If you
are considering a graduate program, begin contacting graduate schools for
additional information. Register to take the appropriate graduate exam at UM
Testing Services. Prepare a graduate school essay, take a practice test in the
Office of Career Services and meet with a counselor to discuss and review your
application materials for graduate school.
¨
Over the
summer, continue to update your resume on Griz eRecruiting and be aware of
upcoming on-campus interview opportunities.
Purchase and “wear in” your interview attire to make sure it fits
properly and will be comfortable during interviews.
