Conference Objectives

  1. To serve as a venue for communication between wildland fire managers (policy makers, community planners) and social scientists - managers communicating their management problems and research needs to the science community and scientists communicating their research findings to the management community.

  2. To expand and build the network of individuals involved in human dimensions of wildland fire management:

    • Researchers in various disciplines related to human dimensions of wildfire

    • Wildland fire and land managers, and community representatives,facing the challenges of fire management.


  1. To foster the development of new research collaborations - between managers and researchers and between groups in different regions and countries.

  2. To raise awareness of the diversity of approaches, issues and ideas in wildland fire management - with the objective of developing innovative ideas for management and research.
