The
concept of a Partner's Showcase session originated in Sustainable
Forest Management Network conferences (www.sfmnetwork.ca
). Rather than conference sessions designed around researchers
speaking about their findings; managers (industry, government, NGOs)
lead the sessions. They outline a management challenge or problem
and describe how they addressed the challenge through the use of
a research program and research results. Researchers are active
in the session by describing their methods and results; but the
focus of the session is on how managers frame the problem and apply
research results. The sessions also discuss methods and challenges
in knowledge exchange between researchers and managers. In most
cases they also describe what outstanding questions / challenges
remain.
These
showcases have been successful in describing the integration between
research and management and in discussing ways that research questions
can be framed to address management challenges. They are also helpful
in describing future research needs or gaps in current research
programs. Finally, they provide examples of how researcher - management
teams address practical management problems.
We
invite individuals from State / Provincial / Federal Agencies, communities,
NGOs, Forest Industries or other organizations to propose a Partner
Showcase. A short statement of the organizations involved, the management
issue / topic, and a list of speakers / presenters is required for
submission.
The
deadline for submitting a suggested Parner Showcase is March
30, 2007.
