About
the German Immersion Workshop
The
University of Montana and the Goethe
Institut, San Francisco, bring German language teachers and
students of German together in an intensive, cohesive, and innovative
learning experience. Participants exchange and practice learning
strategies, classroom activities, and improve their own language
skills in a supportive environment. For twenty years, the immersion
week has offered lovers of the German language and culture the opportunity
to network with colleagues.
The
tradition continues with this year's workshop conducted at western
Montana's
beautiful Flathead Lake. The 2005 German Immersion Workshop, Sunday,
August 7 - Saturday, August 13, offers the opportunity to refresh
speaking and comprehensive skills in a total language experience.
All teachers and advanced German students interested in teaching
are encouraged to apply; partial scholarships are available. Participants
check in between 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7. Reception,
dinner and workshop orientation follow .
The
theme of this year's workshop is
Die deutschsprachigen Länder:
ein Mosaik aus Kunst, Kultur und Geographie.
From the Waterkant to the Alps, from Rügen to the
Black Forest, the German-speaking countries are marked by a fascinating
mosaic of culture and nature, tradition and modernism, art and kitsch,
and city and countryside. In a series of presentations, participants
will become acquainted with this mosaic and will work on a variety
of practical teaching units for the classroom. Familiar territory
and concepts will be examined from a fresh perspective and new regions
and horizons will be explored.
