D - Doctor of Education
The doctoral program in educational leadership
prepares educators and administrators for executive roles in K-12
schools, universities and businesses. The coursework, designed for
the convenience of full-time professionals, takes two years to complete.
Cohorts meet via videoconference on six weekends each fall and
spring semester and for three weeks on campus in the summer. Students then complete
dissertation work at their own pace.
The degree program builds a primary area in educational leadership
with emphases in curriculum leadership and leadership for evolving
organizations. UM-Missoula's program is benchmarked in national standards.
Characterized by ongoing faculty mentoring and authentic assessment,
it is designed to bring out the very best in a cadre of high-caliber
students. The School
of Education offers this degree program in cooperation with Continuing
Education.
The doctor of education cohort program stresses real world conditions
in educational leadership through workplace realities and practical
situations. To compliment this, students also learn conceptual models
of excellent leadership focusing on nine curricular strands: change/futures,
leadership, research, community, communication, assessment/program
evaluation, management, diversity, and professionalism/socialization.
Course work consists of group learning and performance-based evaluation.
The faculty includes noted scholars of educational leadership who
are widely published and provide expertise to the School of Education
in a variety of specialties including: the future, total quality management, school
restructuring, finance, leadership theory, organizational behavior/theory,
