Wintersession - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When can I register for Wintersession?
A: You may register for Wintersession 2009 from October 27, 2008, until January 7, 2009, through CyberBear.
Students intending to drop/add classes or change grading option after January 7 must do so through Griz Central, using a drop/add form, by 4:30pm on January 16, and a $40 late fee will be assessed for each course addition after this date. Students who fail to pay/finalize by in person by 4:30pm on January 16, or via CyberBear by midnight on January 17, will be cancelled.

Q: How do I register for Wintersession? Can I select the Wintersession 2009 term on CyberBear?

A: Students register for Wintersession courses via CyberBear. Wintersession courses are included in the regular Spring Semester 2009 Term. To narrow a CyberBear search for Wintersession courses, select the Spring Semester 2009 Term, select one or more Subjects
, and then select the UM-Wintersession Campus. All Wintersession courses carry a "Section" number beginning with 90; i.e., 90, 91, etc.

Q: What are tuition and fees for Wintersession?

A: Wintersession is considered part of Spring Semester for the purposes of calculating tuition and fees and determining eligibility for Financial Aid. You can find expense information at umt.edu/bussrvcs. Fees indicated are subject to change without notice.


Q: When are finals held during Wintersession?

A: There is no official final exam schedule for Wintersession. Refer to the course syllabus or ask your instructor for exam information.


Q: When will my Wintersession grades be available?
A: Wintersession 2009 grades may be accessed, via CyberBear, after June 1, 2009.

Q: How many class meetings can I miss during Wintersession?
A: Wintersession courses are offered in a highly accelerated format. If you anticipate not being able to attend any number of scheduled class meetings for your Wintersession course, you should contact the instructor prior to registration.

Q: What is the last day I can drop my Wintersession course?

A: The final day you may drop or add a Wintersession 2009 course, via CyberBear, is January 7, 2009. Students intending to drop/add classes or change grading option after January 7 must do so through Griz Central, using a drop/add form, by 4:30pm on January 16.

Q: Do I need an additional Advising Number for Wintersession?

A: No, if you are eligible to register for Spring Semester, no additional advising information or approval is necessary to register for Wintersession.


Q: When and where should I pay/finalize my registration/bill?

A: You should pay/finalize your registration/bill in person by 4:30pm on January 16, or via CyberBear by midnight on January 17, 2009. You should pay/pay on CyberBear using a credit card or an e-check, or in person at Griz Central, 2nd floor, Lommasson Center.


Q: What is my PIN number?

A: If you have never changed your Personal Identification Number (PIN) on CyberBear, it is your 6-digit birth date (mmddyy). Example: 060785=June 7, 1985. You must enter all zeroes.


Q: How do I obtain a transcript?
A: To obtain a free unofficial transcript, visit www.umt.edu/cyberbear and print your own. To obtain official transcripts, you may complete the Transcript Request Form at Griz Central ($3 per copy) or request official transcripts in writing from Registrar s Office, The University of Montana, Lommasson Center 201, Missoula, MT 59812 ($3 per copy through regular U.S. mail or $3 per copy, plus $15 per address for Federal or Overnight Mail).
Wintersession courses will not appear on your transcript until the end of Spring Semester.

Q: I am not allowed to register. Why not?

A: There may be several reasons why you are not eligible to register for Wintersession. CyberBear will display the reasons. Some common problems include:
  • Your admission has not been finalized.
  • You have not enrolled for two years or more and must complete and submit an Application for Readmission (visit admissions.umt.edu)
  • You have been suspended academically and must be reinstated by your dean.
  • You have been suspended academically and have not attended UM for two years or more. You should be reinstated by your dean and submit an Application for Readmission to the Registrars Office.
  • A hold has been placed on your student account due to missing signatures on your admission forms, unpaid fees, failure to complete the Writing Proficiency Examination, etc.
  • Classes you requested are full, closed or require consent of instructor, or you do not meet the registration criteria for the course, such as class level or major.
  • You have reached the 21 credit registration limit. A registration override is necessary to register for more than 21 credits between Spring Semester and Wintersession.
 
Q: I have several questions regarding Financial Aid.

A: For Financial Aid information, visit www.umt.edu/finaid or contact the Financial Aid Office, Griz Central, 2nd floor, Lommasson Center, telephone 406.243.5373.


Q: May I transfer the credits I earn at UM to another institution?

A: To verify transferability, contact the academic counselor at the institution to which you would like to transfer the credits.


Q: May I drop all of my courses on CyberBear?

A: No. You must see the Registration Counter staff in Griz Central if you intend to withdraw by dropping all of your courses.
