Tax Practitioner Institute

The University of Montana School of Extended & Lifelong Learning is proud to sponsor the 39th annual Tax Practitioner Institute in Great Falls and Missoula, Montana. This institute uses the 2012 edition of the Federal Tax Workbook published by the University of Illinois. The University of Montana is the only authorized Montana provider of the comprehensive book.

At this Institute, learn about the latest tax legislation, including:

  • Social Security and Retirement Planning
  • The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
  • Small Business Issues including:
    • New guidance regarding deduction and capitalization of expenditures for tangible property
    • The Domestic Production Activities Deduction
  • Divorce
  • S Corporations
  • Succession Planning including Entity Selection Considerations

  • Ethics (1 hour + 1 optional hour)
  • Individual Tax Topics including financial distress and real estate professionals

Continuing Professional Education

The Tax Practitioner Institute provides 840 minutes of instruction, of which 60 is ethics content and 60 is Montana-specific content.  Due to participant request, we have added an additional 60 minutes of ethics content (900 minutes total), which is optional for participants to attend.  The following Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits are approved:

  • Certified Public Accountants
    Qualifies for 16.5 hours (includes 1 hour ethics) with the Montana Board of Public Accountants (preapproval not required)
    1 additional hour of ethics is available (optional attendance)

  • Certified Financial Planners
    Approved for 15 hours by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards
    Ethics content was not approved for this profession

  • Enrolled Agents and Registered Tax Return Preparers
    Approved by the IRS for 1 hours Ethics, 3 hours Federal Tax Law Update, and 10 hours Federal Tax Law Topics
    1 additional hour of Ethics is available (optional attendance)

  • Realtors
    Approval is pending from the Montana Board of Realty Regulation

About the Instructor

Robert (Bob) Rehkamp, CPA, has nearly 30 years of experience in both public accounting and industry, serving businesses and individuals in the areas of taxation, accounting, and business consulting. He is a Certified Public Accountant with a B.S. degree in accounting from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He owns a tax and accounting practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bob is a frequent speaker for the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), the University of Illinois, and has presented seminars and workshops in more than 40 states.
