A
One-day Workshop with Dorothy Patent 10 am to 4:30 pm, June 14,
2008
Humans
have had a special relationship with trees for thousands of years
yet we modern people pay them little attention except in the fall,
when they glow with brilliant color, or in the spring, when they
announce the season change as their leaves unfold.
In this workshop, we'll explore our relationship to trees at Athanor
Arts, a creativity center on the edge of the tribal wilderness only
20 minutes from downtown Missoula, where a comfortable yurt stands
amidst a forest of more than a dozen different kinds of trees. Our
leader, author and watercolor artist Dorothy Patent, will give us
a brief introduction to trees' ancient sacred qualities and to the
amazing frenzy of inner activity beneath their strong, quiet exteriors.
Then, using writing and drawing techniques from Dorothy, each of
us will explore our own relationship to these amazing living things,
and we'll share our individual discoveries. At the end of the day,
we'll each have a piece of writing and a bit of personal art to
remember this special day and help deepen our appreciation of these
natural wonders.
