ADMISSION STATUS

SUMMER SEMESTER 2008 ONLY

This admission status is designed for undergraduate or graduate nondegree students who have never been formally admitted to UM and will attend only Summer Semester 2008. This status is limited to students who register for 6 credits or fewer during Summer Semester only, and is not intended for those pursuing a UM degree. Students should complete the Application Form and submit the appropriate nonrefundable application fee. For convenience, students qualifying for this status are not required to provide proof of immunization or a Preregistration Immunization Requirements form. Students must provide this information if they opt to apply and attend UM in a semester other than Summer 2008. Students who previously attended UM should follow the readmission procedures and update their Pre-registration Immunization Requirements form.

UNDERGRADUATE NONDEGREE

This status is not intended for those pursuing a UM degree or for applicants without prior college experience. Restrictions: Students may earn a maximum of 30 semester credits in this status which may be applied later to an undergraduate degree; students may not register for graduate credit; and students are not eligible for financial aid. Students should complete an application form, certify graduation from an accredited high school (or passing GED scores) and submit the nonrefundable $30 application fee or $36 online application fee. To be considered for nondegree status, a student must have earned 12 or more college credits.

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE

This status is intended for the pursuit of an undergraduate degree at UM. Academic eligibility is determined in accordance with established policy and upon receipt of complete credentials.

Entering freshmen should provide a completed Application Form, High School Self-Report Form, nonrefundable $30 application fee or $36 online application fee, final high school transcript, and ACT or SAT scores (sent to UM from the testing company). Freshmen who have not graduated from an accredited high school or who were home-schooled should contact Enrollment Services - Admissions.

Transfer applicants should provide a completed Application Form, nonrefundable $30 application fee or $36 online application fee and official transcripts from each regionally accredited college or university attended. Applicants who have completed fewer than 12 transferable credits should also supply credentials required of entering freshmen (see undergraduate degree)
.

POST BACCALAUREATE

Post baccalaureate students may take courses as undergraduate or graduate, but may earn only undergraduate credit. Students may not earn graduate credit in post baccalaureate status. Applicants may be eligible for limited financial aid. Students are assessed tuition and fees equivalent to graduate nondegree and master's level status.

GRADUATE NONDEGREE

Graduate nondegree status allows students, who have not been formally admitted to a graduate degree program, to receive graduate credit. Up to nine (9) semester nondegree graduate credits (or the credits earned during a single semester, whichever is greater) may be applied toward a subsequent degree program, with the approval of the student’s program chair and the
Graduate Dean. Acceptance as a graduate nondegree student does not imply future admission to a degree program. Graduate nondegree students may take courses for either graduate or undergraduate credit, as defined by the university catalog. Graduate credits are assigned automatically unless a request for undergraduate credit is submitted to the Graduate School by the fifth day of class for a 10-week session. Applicants are not eligible for financial aid. Graduate nondegree students are assessed graduate level tuition and fees at the master’s level rate. Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university prior to enrolling in this status.

GRADUATE DEGREE

Graduate degree admission is for candidates seeking to complete a master’s or doctoral program at UM. The academic department to which the student is applying conducts the initial evaluation of a complete application packet and submits the packet with a recommendation to the Graduate School for the final decision regarding admission.

HIGH SCHOOL PILOT PROGRAM

Area high school students may enroll in university classes through UM's Pilot High School Program. High school students may earn college credit, receive an early introduction to university opportunities and develop skills and knowledge beyond the high school level. For more information, students and their parents should contact the High School Pilot Program Coordinator, Enrollment Services - Admissions, Lommasson 103, 406.243.6266. For opportunities at the UM College of Technology, telephone 406.243.7882.
