Facility Cores

Molecular Histology and Fluorescence Imaging Core

Routine and specialized fixation is offered in this core. The histology laboratory is fully equipped to prepare paraffin or frozen embedded tissue for enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. Instrumentation includes: Shandon Finesse 385 and RMC MT-920 microtomes Shandon Citadel 2000 tissue processor, Shandon Histocentre embedding station, Shandon Veristain 24-4 automated stainer and Shandon Cryotome microtomes for frozen tissues( one each for human and non human tissue).

The Fluorescence Imaging component provides researchers with analyzable images of cells and tissues. Equipment includes a Nikon E-800 fluorescent microscope, high resolution video and a computer- driven image capture and analysis system. Additionally, a BioRad Radiance 2000 confocal microscope and imaging system can be utilized for determining the subcellular localization and distribution of specific proteins in tissue slices or cultured cells. NIH Imaging, Image J and Photoshop software is available. More information...
