Seminar Speakers

The REU seminar series will begin with an introductory session led by Garon Smith.

This will be followed by Dr. Mark Hanson's presentation of ethics which will include the following:

Law, compliance and ethics: connections and differences
Ethical responsibilities of research – investigators, institution, and everyone else
Ethical responsibilities in the mentor/trainee relationship
Systematic Moral Analysis (getting clear on the ethical issue and identification of
parties affected and potential harms) and justification (separation of morally permitted actions from those that are morally prohibited and identification of morally ideal alternatives).
Pre-course case analysis

This presentation of ethics will be made in a two to two and one-half day mini-course.
