International Council

CHARGE

  • Refine an internationalization strategy at UM and promote priorities within that strategy;
  • Enhance communication and synergy related to international activities among academic, research and other creative programs;
  • Develop and recommend policies, procedures, and partnerships that advance internationalization;
  • Review and approve international partnership proposals;
  • Review and determine recipients of the Faculty International Activity Award and the Distinguished Service to International Education Award; and
  • Assist the success of the Global Engagement Office (GEO).

The faculty representatives on this council will either serve as International Liaisons within their schools and colleges or assist in the identification of an International Liaison within their school or college who will:

  • Serve as an initial point of contact for international and domestic students, scholars, faculty, and staff in the respective unit/department within the College interested in international opportunities;
  • Assist domestic students in verifying transfer credits from their study abroad experience (NOTE: where professional advisors exist within any given college, GEO can provide training to advisors to work with study abroad students); and
  • Communicate with international partners who are interested in collaborating with a specific department within the College, as facilitated by GEO.

MEETINGS

Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month during the fall and spring semesters from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
