History and Purpose
"Promoting Student Learning"
Welcome! UM's
Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) serves faculty and
graduate teaching assistants in their development as teachers.
The mission of UM's Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE)
is “to promote student learning.” The Center
provides guidance and direction to those faculty and teaching
assistants who wish to improve their classroom teaching.
It offers one-on-one consultation with faculty who want
to make specific changes in their teaching, and conducts
faculty development workshops on topics related to improving
classroom communication and teaching strategies.
The Center for Teaching Excellence for The University of Montana was
established in July, 1999. The Center is administered out of Academic
Affairs. Dr. Johnny W. Lott served
as director from August 2005 until January 2007. Prior to that Dr. Mark
Cracolice, Department of Chemistry, was director from 2003-2005. Dr. Betsy Bach was the founder and first director from 1999 until 2003. Questions about the
center should be directed to the Provost's Office (406) 243 4689. The Center has accepted the challenge offered by Ernest
Boyer in his book, Scholarship Reconsidered, teaching
excellence in the classroom to make the undergraduate experience
as worthwhile as is possible. |
