The University of Montana’s Day of Dialogue is a campus-wide symposium focusing on the topics of race, gender, ethnicity, ability/disability, religion,hierarchy and academic discipline.
The day includes educational sessions, with workshops, panels and presentations at 9:00, 10:30 and 3:30, exhibits, and associated events that can be found at ww.umt.edu/dayofdialogue.

Among the events is a presentation by Dr. Manning Marable at 2:00 PM in the University Theatre. Dr. Marable is the founder of the Institute for Research in African American Studies at Columbia University. In addition to Dr. Marable’s talk, there are faculty presentations include the following:
Postmodern Construction of Sexual Identity: Queer Issues in Spanish- American Literature—Clary Loisel, Modern and Classical Languages and Literature; How Poverty Divides Us—Charlie Wellenstein and Kerrie Ghenie, Social Work, Indian Education for All in the Montana University System—Ellen Swaney, Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education, How the U. S. Constitution Treats Discrimination—James Lopach, Political Science, How Sexist Is Your Day?—Marilynn Davis, Undergraduate Advising, The Last and the Least: Cultural Perspectives on Disability— Dan Burke, Disability Services, Understanding Human/Land Relations Through a Diversity of Disciplines—Wilderness and Civilization Faculty, Intercultural Communication—Phyllis Ngai, Communication Studies Indian Students and Kyi Yo at The University of Montana, 1952-2006—G. G. Weix and Eli Suzukovich, Anthropology.

The events for the day include far more than are listed here. Many have participated in the planning of this event. The President’s Offi ce and the Center for Teaching Excellence helped initiate the planning but the program lists many other departments and units that have helped. It is expected that this day is simply a springboard for further dialogue and action. All are welcome to participate.
