Our Songs Continue:
Teaching Traditional Arikara and Songs

In 1913, a group of Arikara leaders and elders along with the Chief petitioned the Commissioner of Indian Affairs to be able to pass on traditional songs of the tribe before they're lost. This time in history was geared toward civilizing the various American Indian nations and to strip them of their culture. The performance given is to prove Arikara songs and traditions are alive and well, despite efforts to end this culture. Music and explanation are given on songs rendered by Loren Sr. and sons, Loren Jr. and Patrick Yellow Bird. Some of songs performed are very old. This is done on a traditional drum with the songs explained.

Performers: Loren Yellow Bird, Loren Yellow Bird Jr.(11), Patrick Yellow Bird (7)
