Eligibility & Enrollment

If you are a fee-paying student enrolled for six or more state supported or self-supported credits* at The University of Montana-Missoula, you are eligible for the insurance.  To purchase the student insurance plan, you will need to click "BUY" student insurance during registration on Cyberbear. If you need to change the selection that you made on Cyberbear, please physically come in to see the Student Insurance Representative.

*Students in Distance Learning programs are not eligible for the student insurance plan.

Failure to participate each semester will result in a break in coverage. You are encouraged to keep continuous coverage to avoid a preexisting condition limitation.

To be eligible for the student insurance plan at 1-5 credits, you MUST have been enrolled in the insurance plan the previous semester AND meet one of the criteria stated below:

  • You are taking the final required coursework for the completion of your degree (ie. dissertation, thesis or final credits for completion and graduation application has been submitted and approved).
  • International student status.

With the exception of "international student status", you may receive approval one time only for this exception.

If you feel you meet these criteria, please submit a petition to studentinsurance@mso.umt.edu with the following information before the 15th class day:

  • Your name
  • Student ID#
  • Contact Address and Phone #
  • Fall or Spring Semester
  • An explanation, in detail, of the reason you are unable to meet the minimum of 6 credits for a traditional grade and how you meet the criteria stated above.
